Which Chipper?

Help! Im a gardener and have no intention of become a tree surgeon, I can't climb for a start! I often get asked to remove a hedge or make a big reduction etc. I'm at the point where I need a bigger and quicker chipper, I currently have an Eliet chipper minor but it's too slow and not capable of chipping a lot of branches. I assume it will need towing but I could do with a few pointers of what's best?. This will be a machine that certainly won't be in everyday use, probably once a week max, so a second hand machine will be probably more viable for my pocket. Any advice greatly appreciated.

  • Eliet Prof 5 is good, make sure it has the hydraulics (powered wheels and in feed roller). Gravity fed woodchippers won't handle green waste, the eliet will. They do come up from time to time and are very well engineered so used is a good option.

  • I did have an Eliet Major (without the shute) so just dumped the shreddings on the ground. I didn't rate it as would not take green matter only woody material. I ended up hardly using it & sold it in the spring lossing money on it. Not much though.

When i have need for something I now hire a Timberwolf TW 13 /75  It's an awsome bit of kit, chips 75mm easily but is fast as well., not cheap if you want to purchase one but ideal for a one off job.
