Which brand of brushcutter?

I've always used Stihl for brushcutters, hedgetrimmers etc, but they don't last like they used to, and I'm thinking of trying a change.  Husqvarna and Echo seem the obvious options.  Does anyone on here use either, and have an opinion?

TIA

  • Really like Echo gear, probably our favourite along with Shindaiwa (which is basically the same anyway). Having said that, not sure any of the equipment is made quite as good as it once was.

  • Agree with PGM before retirement we swapped to Echo from Stihl just better made and more ergonomic

  • Everything stihl mine still last forever no issues

    • They used to.  I've got 3 year old kit and 13 year old kit, dying at the same time.

  • All of my battery kit is Stihl but Husqvarna 525RJX strimmer, lots of power & not a problem for about 5 years, whereas the Stihl I had before last a couple of years. Petorl blower is Husy as well, although that has had to have a new wiring loop this summer....... half the price of a new machine.

  • Tend to stick with the Stihl large brushcutters or more often the 40 cc Clearing saw. They are blooody heavy tho-the mtronic tech is really impressive tbf.

For anything under that I use a makita 40v strimmer with a folding cowhorn handlebar which is surprisingly impressive.

Light as a feather, decent harness and a tricut head and blade can be fitted also.

  • had job the other day managed to get to it whilst relatively dry, strim a massive overgrown literally 10 inches to 1 foot tall lawn down to "bowling green level" in 1 pass, did the worst bits with Stihl FSA135 fitted with 2.7mm oregon square line, alternating with Ego STX4500 with 2.4mm in the spool, and some parts were do-able with Stihl battery mulching mower, as we all know strimming solid grass is one of the hardest tasks but absolutely blitzed it, the guy was incensed by what I charged compared "per hour" to his previous gardener as did it so quick but later admitted well worth it and sent full amount, when he kicked off I told him it's done quickly due to experience and high end kit, must have depleted over £1K worth of batteries doing it in fact
