Where can i get an employee contract?

Hello, I run a gardening business and have just taken on my first employee. I'm working my way through all the official stuff. Would anyone know where i can get a sample contract from or does anyone have one which they wouldn't mind me using as a template to work from. thanks lisa

I would suggest you visit the business link website . You are able to create your employment contract with relevant clauses and download it for future use . It will have all the current relevant info included. Also a great resource for practical business info .
  • Hello steve, I have had people working for me on a self employed basis for about three years but find that they are quite unreliable. Short notice for days off, long holidays in the summer. I have found myself getting through alot of staff, which is a major headache. I'm hoping if I employee this person properly, both them and i will behave in a more professional way, generating more work. I also have two part timers that will remain as self-employed. Employing people seems a bit daunting though, lots more paperwork!
Thanks Gary I will look at business link website

Hi lisa , have you not thought about asking the person you have taken on to go self employed himself ? ie having his own liability etc , it would save a headache etc
  • Ha Ha! thats what happens to you when you try and do paperwork x
  • Lisa,
PM me and I'll send you a copy of our terms of employment. You just fill in the blanks.
Steve, it's illegal to employ people on a self-employed basis for more than about 3 minutes these days. The revenue closed that loophole years ago and if you have an inspection guess who's liable for all that unpaid tax and employers NI contributions?

Dave last posted May 2013. So I suppose this will only get seen if he has e-mail alerts on.

Also given it was originally 2010, various aspects of employment law (disciplinay & grievances etc ) have changed, so using a 5+ year old template as a starting point may not be best solution.

Also with the impending Pension changes, I would ensure Contracts reflect this as well

There is a basic template in the BOG download section.
