Steve, it's illegal to employ people on a self-employed basis for more than about 3 minutes these days. The revenue closed that loophole years ago and if you have an inspection guess who's liable for all that unpaid tax and employers NI contributions?

Phil and Matt, just be aware that this is a 5 year old post and some some the replies MAY be from 'unactive members'.
Dave last posted May 2013. So I suppose this will only get seen if he has e-mail alerts on.
Also given it was originally 2010, various aspects of employment law (disciplinay & grievances etc ) have changed, so using a 5+ year old template as a starting point may not be best solution.
Also with the impending Pension changes, I would ensure Contracts reflect this as well
