When do you give your books to the accountants/ submit your tax returns?

I usually give my books to the accountant in January for the finance year April to end March (my trading year).
This year with being a bit more organised and having my books up to date also concerned as I knew my turn over had gone up I submitted my books to him at the start of this month.
Glad I did as I have to pay some tax this year, along with his accountancy bill, & my national insurance class 4.
If I had left it till December/January I might well have found my-self short of cash with being a quite trading time within our industry, handing my books in earlier than usual has not cost me any more however its given me time to budget for the January 31st 2014 deadline.
One last point if your tax due exceeds £1000 you also have to pay 50% of whatever it is as a down payment on the following years potential tax in advance in January 14 and again in July 14 , IE tax bill £1200.00 means paying the £1200.00 on
Jan 31st 2014 together with a additional £600.00 total of £1800 with a further £600 due in July.

    Normally at the end of jan! But this year I was we'll on top of it all and they were at the accountants by the second week of April!!
