  • To be fair to the council here, they're strimming the weeds rather than the grass.  I'm amazed the council spokesman said they should "handpick the weeds"............. I'm sure the public would be moaning when someone was on thier knees there for days.   You can't win........... moan when weedkillers are used (the obvious sensible solution) and moan when the weeds are strimmed.

  • A council putting artificial grass down in the first place was always a bad idea!

I was looking at some moss filled artificial grass a few days ago, why oh why do people believe that plastic grass and gravel areas are maintaince free?

I did a Spring clean in a garden with “low maintenance gravel beds” yesterday which are riddled with Herb Robert and weeds. I actually like Herb Robert, but it does take over.

My local council has been out with the weed killer, now lampposts, sign posts, manhole covers, dog bins and street furniture standing in areas of grass all have a patch of dead vegetation around them as part of their scorched earth policy to save using strimmers whilst grass cutting allowing everything to be done with a zero turn ride on mower without having anyone on foot using handheld equipment.

So around here the guy would not have been strimming weeds in the plastic grass, they would have been sprayed with weed killer.
