What wetting agents are you using?

I'm new to the world of wetting agents but I'm thinking of giving them a try this season. There seems to be loads of choice out there. What are people's preferred option?

Also. Do you dilute a wetting agent and apply via a knapsack. If so. Generally what the dilution ratio?  ( I understand this may differ from product to product)

Thanks 👍

I had hoped a professional forum such as this may have been able to supply me with some info, hints and tips on my lawncare journey. I'll try Google instead.

      Hi Gary,

Wetting agents are best used as a prevention method rather than a cure. Applications in the spring when it's still wet help to make sure the soil is saturated as the drought approaches. It also makes sure the wetter is spread nice and evenly through the soil profile so that when the rain returns after drought, it is absorbed quickly into all areas.

Wetting agents can have different longevities making some better than others for domestic lawns. There's also penetrants and residuals to choose from. Penetrants allow water to pass through the soil quickly. Residuals do the same but will retain more water within the soil afterwards.

Products vary in their application rate but are usually in the rang of 10-50 L/ha. You should expect to apply with 400-800 L of water per hectare. Some should be applied every month, others every three months. You can tank mix most wetters but the manufacturer is best placed to advise on specific pairings.

      Hope that helps?
