  •  It depends to some extent how old you are. What I mean is if you are a little older, then you may have savings and little or no debt.
I have no mortgage, it was paid off ten years early in 2012. I have no hire purchase or finance. I have enough savings that I could use to live on for a few years, if I was careful, but I am 53. If you asked me the question twenty years ago, then things would be very different.
Of course, if any of us were to lose a leg, as in the example above, then we would likely get invalidity or some other kind of benefits.

Part of the reason for the post was to high light that unexpected things can happen and to also make people aware there are organisation such as Perennial that can help.

‘Benefits’ are fine, but could you navigate the process to gain them while in a similar situation ?

Physical pain, mental anguish / depression, subsequent relationship issues can all play a part in diminishing an individuals ability to act and deal with issues rationally.

It’s good to know there are safety nets in these austere times....

    Great post Gary

You always have to plan ahead in this game, it's so worthwhile to have critical illness on life insurance too.

I really don't have enough saving in place, if the brown stuff hit the fan. Only really gettin myself into the postition now where I can save for the future.  I don't think anyone properly plans for this stuff properly, if you do I take my hat off to you.

Perennial is a great charity too!

I have been having some health issues this year myself and it really makes in focus inn on the future!
