Where was the bt cable? Virgin are wild in my area for burying cables in the ground about 3 inches down. They are supposed to run them in conduit and know their contractors throw them in any old way so never seem to quibble when you ring and say you've cut one as they can't really argue that it was your fault.
The BT cable was brown in colour and trailing through a winter Jasmine which the client wanted reducing. A staff member accidentally cut through it. A bit annoyed that the client won't share the responsibility but that's life I guess!
I was on holiday at the time :(

Your employed is not the last or first to cut a cable.
I understand it is difficult when troubles comes together- but it seems that it works that way sometimes.
Nick, It is all part of business , some days are better some not.
If there are things to improve- fine than do but - do not take it too hard- not worth it.
I think that if fair and reasonable.
Made a mistake few years back, cutting a hedge at a small housing estate i used to manage and accidently cut through a domestic gas pipe. suddingly throught I could hear hissing and no meter key in the van (PANIC!). Luckly never caught on fire and a quick 999 call my local retained fire service came and turned off supply. It was a new built property and they had stuck a gas meter behind the hedge of all places and the pipe just looked like a water pipe with no external protection.
But could have ended up in a big insurance claim as there was 8 flats in the block.
Lucky it was all sorted and only cost me £80 for a local gas engineer to repair and repressure the householders supply. You will only make that error once (I HOPE!)and I now always carry a meter box key just in case.
Cut through a mains cable last month! It had come away from the pole and was in the middle of a clematis stem I was remving (1 foot way from pole) The clematis had completely entwined itself around the cable, and so the cable could not be seen. Anyway big bang and all customers lights went out! Fortunately I was using a plastic handled pruning saw!
Phoned Scottish power who attended and fixed. Two weeks later a bill arrived for £800! Still argueing with them as able shouldn't have been there. Did phone my insurance co who told me they don't defend utility claims, they just pay them....
When I say argueing with SP, what I mean is that I have written several letters enclosing photos of their unattached cable, the pole etc, and they write back threatening solicitors!
Just to add to it all, the landrovers clutch went today....
There should have been a sign on the post warning of a cable? if not then you might be able to avoid paying on a technicality.
Nick
