Oliver, I have posted on this previously if that helps.
You need to find out the hydrostatic head rating (HH) prior to buying , the higher the number the more waterproof, supposedly! A minimum of 20000 HH is to aim for. A lot of sellers do not disclose or know the HH rating so avoid. To be honest in the price bracket we buy at £50 to £100 they come out of China etc regardless of brand and the HH rating cannot be relied on. Recently bought a so called premium brand ( Craghoppers) Jacket with a declared HH of 25 within 30 mins of steady rain shoulders leaking also its short in the body so have to take off my body warmer as it does not cover the bottom of it, the zip is poor quality. The jacket is supposed to have a lifetime guarantee good luck with that!
Onto trousers, look thigh length zips with popper closures many now have vecro closure not zips or poppers and the velcro fails once it gets made up with grass etc. Thigh length zips essential so you can get them off/on without removing boots. Currently using Berghaus trousers which are average in performance.
If its going to be wet all day will wear 2 jackets and 2 trousers which will keep us dry for around 4 hours as opposed to 1 to 2 hours, basically they are all crap and should not be described as waterproof because they are not! There waterproofs available at several hundreds of pounds whether these perform any better.
Good luck, you'll need it!

Had a Helly Hanson Mandal waterproof jacket for several years which keeps me bone dry but it's got no insulation so gets cold unless I wear layers but I find layers restrict movement .
The rain runs off it so you need the waterproof trousers and good boots as they get soaked as well .
Often wondered what they wear on trawlers and fishing boats to keep warm and dry ..
Unless I am getting leaves up in Winter I no longer work in the rain if the job can wait .
There is a video on YT saying exactly what I said that these so called waterproofs are anything but, it's about lies and marketing . The video is science based with scientific evidence being shown to back up. Once the outer layer becomes saturated any breathability is non existent and the water will soak through the garment. Off to buy an umbrella.
I use Fort Airflex from Hollands Country Clothing. It is agricultural wear and seems to keep me dry, and is very reasonably priced. It keeps me pretty dry, although I generally don't use the hood, unless the rain is very heavy, as it would interfere with my ear-protection/ headphones.
I consider myself an expert on this subject - I have everything :)
But there's one that stands out. This jacket is in a league of its own. It might not look cheap but all the similar jackets are alomost 3 times the price. It's tough but really comfortable. Never wets out because it's dual protection, has lots of huge pocket, long ventilations zips.
I have worn this jacket in torrential rain, worked all day in it & never got wet. UK Sqaddies get these instead of their issued Gortex as it's better

By the way this is warm enough for Winter
I second that. Clothing from domestic suppliers never stands up to military alternatives. I had a German police jacket and it lasted 2 years before any shoulder leaks.
The weather is lovely out but sadly we got to work. Can't sit in the house when the work mounts up.
I use this set up. Keeps me warm and dry after a 8 hour day in the rain.
Bib and brace waterproof

These are very inexpensive but a complete life saver as you can really work in the rain in them.
I use a oversize berghaus jacket ( prices have massively increased since I last bought. But easily last 3 years with a wash and re proofing??

A cheap fleece also. Go outdoors are good for those.
A good pair of boots, COFRA do some good stuff in my opinion.
Enjoy the weather 😎
