I do not want to annoy anyone by starting yet another discussion on waste but...
Put aside Whether one should or shouldn't and has or hasn't got a licence.
Has the cost of the licence increased over the years (not sure how long it has been around)
For those that have or are thinking of getting a licence do you worry that the cost will go up in leaps and bounds over the years?
The point I am making is that £150 for 3 years is not a lot but lets say it went up to £500 or more in say 5 years because its a good way for the government to raise some extra money for nothing in these hard times. Would you say to hell with that and operate without a licence that is if you are tipping within your own yard etc. and you thought you could get away with it.
If you de registered because the cost became astronomical do you not think that the EA would cotton onto this then just track you down to double check whether you trying to get away with it and then give you a great big fine. I have no doubt they would.
My point is really that once you are signed up, you're signed up and you will ultimately pay the cost out of necessity, like you buy your diesel not because you like paying 135 a litre but because you have too
I'm not avocating operating illegally just voicing my concerns that I feel the cost is likely to go one way only, what do you think?

In answer to Marks question No!
Agree with Paul completely, only I still wonder whether the cost is likely to increase simply because anything seen as 'bad' regarding the environment and waste is generally taxed more and more as we all know with fuel and road tax. Lets hope it doesn't increase above the rate of inflation, but I will not hold my breath.
Still cannot see the point of the licence because those that care would to to a dump anyway, those that do no and never will care will fly tip regardless of having the licence. It is simply the mentality isn't it.
In the 10 years that I had one, the cost has only gone up £50 (ie =~£5 a year, i think £96, £120, £154) but remember it's fixed for 3 years so you should get plenty of notice.
I can see where some of you are comming from on the resi side, but commercially we would go with it no matter what. We do not hide the costs from our clients. They are more than aware of the issues as we quite often deal with hazardous waste (which we sub out) thru fly tipping, litter removal and hard landscaping jobs around the sites.
As Graeme alludes to, there is more danger of the waste costs (and landfill tax) rising in an attempt to make us recycle more...
IMHO I think you are worrying unecessarily....
