Waste materials

Hi there i am a newbie to this site so shall introduce myself.I have been a groundsman in sports turf for 14 years with numerous qualifications. i have been thinking for a while about setting up my own garden maintenance business originally part time-weekends,evening etc.My question is what does everybody do with their waste materials such as grass clipping, branches, shrubbery, soil etc. Where do you get rid of the waste? im guessing the tip would charge to dump it there. Any ideas or advice appreciated

thanks

Welcome and good luck with your new venture. Do a search for this subject there are many discussions on this subject. Search bar is at the top right of the home page.
  • You are right there will be a charge but local civic amenity site will probably not take it as classed as trade waste, there will probably be a commercial tip which will take it , up my way they charge by weight with a minimum of £15 plus vat per visit.
Best bet if you are doing residential is to use customers green waste bin if they have one , no cost to you and they are paying for the service through there council tax.
You will have to register as lower tier waste carrier if you are going to remove green waste.

  • Good news is that lower-teir registration is now free, so worth doing as many tips require your certificate before you can use them. As a one-man business it's not worth me going regularly as I don't create enough waste to make the minimum charge weight. I have a trailer at home, where each day's cuttings go. Then it's a decent load once it's full, and worth the trip.
