Waste licence?

Does anyone know if a landscaper needs a waste disposal licence if they remove greenery and fencing/old paving etc from clients gardens, but take it to their own premises where it goes in different skips.  The skips then get collected by a waste disposal company who take it to recycle, ie the landscaper doesn't have to go to the tip at all.  Am I right in saying it's just the company that collects it that needs the licence rather than the landscaper?  Thanks

If you, the landscaper removes waste from a site then you will need to be upper tier registered if it includes anything other than gren waste.

If you have a skip delivered to site, then the skip company should (but check) have the correct licence in place, and you won't need a licence.

If you remove waste from site A to site B (where a skip is) then you will need a licence.

    • Thanks for the answer and making it so clear, sounds like a licence is required!

If you're traveling with it, you need a licence. Upper tier if there is anything other than green waste. They're quite hot on it around Reading; we get stopped pretty much every year and it's quite nice to show them the upper tier paperwork. Not too expensive from memory, about £160 for 3 years for our renewal.

    • Thanks for the advice, will get it arranged asap.

You said that nearly six hours ago, so you don’t actually have an excuse for not being licensed by now ;-)

I would recommend clicking on the correct government link as above as there are agencies which sell waste carriers licences and they are alot more expensive , they even charge for the free lower tier ( green waste licence ) which the governement provide free for life .

      • Thanks John yes I've gone via the gov.uk website.

If you are sorting and storing the waste temporarily as opposed to carrying it, maybe need more than just a carrier's licence.  Maybe a problem with your neighbour's.
