Washing leather gloves

I use leather welder/gauntlet type gloves when working with brambles, etc., and they’re proper muddy and dirty now.  I know from the past that if I wash them, they’ll end up stiff like cardboard and unwearable afterwards.  Anyone get the same prob, and how do you clean them please?

I rub mine with dubbin, they are stiff to start with but soon become supple after rubbing the dubbin into them.

  • cheers Dave, I’ll get a tin n give it a go ... thx fella

  • lether oil will do the same and maby easer to put on you will get it from a saddelers or equine supply store

    • Thx David, I’ll look out for some then

  • Semi-related question. What's a good alternative to leather gloves for someone who doesn't use animal products? The usual cheap rubber-coated workers gloves aren't doing a job when getting up close and personal with the thornier shrubs.
