Warning - dodgy mower on ebay

As some of you know from a recent topic I started, my old Stiga mower broke and I replaced it with a new one. I sold the old machine, minus the deck, with its smashed front transaxle to some kid who said he would mend it and then sell it on. I have no problem with that at all. Good luck to him. However, I have recently found the listing and he has changed the hour metre. It is most definitely my old machine as the serial number is the same. Plus, if that weren't enough, there is the welding repairs to the seat column where is bolts to the foot plate and the over painting of the bolts. So absolutely no doubt at all as to its identity.
When I sold the mower it had done 663 hours [in three and a half seasons], it now has an hour clock showing 115 hours, which is mentioned in the write up. This machine, although well serviced and mechanically looked after, had a tough working ife as one of my contracting machines. It spent most of its life bouncing around old churchyards. So although not massive hours [663], they were hard working hours and way above normal domestic use. The false 115 hour claim would of course be consistent with domestic use.
I wanted to warn anyone not to go near it. I can't stand dishonesty like this at any time, but it is doubly galling when it was once my machine. This is the mower in question

Ebay shows the original listing being ended at 8.40am this morning "due to an error in the listing "

Wonder what that could be eh!

    • Maybe they saw this thread. The kid who bought the mower was accompanied by his uncle who was an Arborist, so perhaps he's a member. To be fair, there is a slim chance that the hour clock picture was from another machine they were selling [but he was selling only one Stiga that had an hour clock] and was loaded for this machine in error - perhaps. Although the 115 figure was highlighted in the description. The original hour clock was in perfect working order, so physically swapping it for another one could only be for one reason. I will watch to see what happens. As I said, it could, at a stretch, be an honest mistake.

    • It has been relisted

For sale is a stiga 740wx Ride On Mower the year is 2014 and showing only 115.6 hours. The stiga starts , runs and drives great it make a good machin…
      • Yes that's the one. They have cut down the picture that shows the serial number, although not quite enough. These are my photos I used when I originally had the engine on ebay, showing serial number and original hour metre.90173661?profile=RESIZE_930x90172368?profile=RESIZE_930x

        • its a diffrant hour meter that has been put on, but it seems to have cleaned up well

  • In a situation like this it is best to buy a second hand one from a reputable dealer with some warranty rather than buy it off eBay in my view. I once bought a Stihl hedgecutter with a shot Carb. To replace the Carb was £150 plus labour...

    • Well you were robbed then....

      • I never got it repaired as it was cheaper to buy a new hedge cutter which is still going strong today.

£150 to supply a carb? Genuine carbs are around £90

      • Yes it was an older Stihl hedge cutter model that was obsolete and replaced by the current models.  Cannot recall what model it was now.
