We use a ready built set of ply shelves (from ebay) that sit over the l/h wheel arch (so as not to take width away anywhere, then on the other side we build a simple set of racks using CLS Stud timber (cheap in Wickes et al) & cheap small galvanised angle brackets that gets built over the r/h wheel arch that all the long handled gear gets slotted into and again does not take width away.
We tried 4" waste pipe screwed to underneath of roof braces for long manual tools, but they got in the way, especially when taking ride-ons into the vans.
We load 2off mowers in via the back, handles in first and have a wood strip in front of the rear door so we can gently ratchet the mowers down without them trying to push rear doors open.
All the short tools great placed in via the side (or we can load several jumbo bags of waste in between mowers and bulkhead) if needed.
All based on Vivaro/Trafic's.
p.s. the shelves we buy, we have the bottom shelf modified to take 2off 5l petrol containers so they are secure and safe.
Cheers Gary any pics ?
