van or trailer

I need a van, medium size or do I? I had a grey x telephone transit but it got stolen, burnt out including all tools mowers etc, all in year one! left me with trailer GD85 caged ramp etc , great for all that garden waste, mulch material, logs etc but open to the weather what do you all use?

  • I agree that van and trailer are very useful together. I only have a 6x4 indespension trailer but it's great for soil, compost, chucking things in after a job if I'm in a rush and for hedge jobs I've done so far. I use a SWB transit too... everything goes inside the van. 2 mowers (one rear, one side, a roller mower and a mulching mower), hedge cutting tools hanging up along with strimmer, shelves for all the bits,. Couldn't do this job without a van of this size. I like the fact it's not a bigger van as I have to squeeze into some tight driveways with thick overhanging branches that I still can't avoid scraping.

Would like to change the trailer to a larger 8x5 with mesh sides, still unbraked though as my van isn't powerful enough to tow more than a ton or so efficiently and I'm only licensed to tow up to 1.5T anyway.

  • I cut scaffold planks to trailer width, added 3x3 blocks to the underside, to go on top of the cage as a platform, to cut a hedge on a long flat drive, better than long steps!

  • PRO
Ford Ranger with a mountain top and a caged trailer for brash etc when needed.

I only take out what tools I need for the days work.

I also beleive that it is a universal law of physics that a man will fill a given space. i.e it does not matter how big the vehicle you have you will still manage to fill it.
  • wow look at that! nice photos, am i dreaming all to touch, easy to find I DO need a van again

  • transit hi-top,

No way I can have a trailer as I do a lot of city centre work. Can get mower, strimmer, blower etc in it plus 14 full builders bags of waste in it.

    Works well for me.
