I have used Opera for the past few years and it renders pages quickly and is not prone to crashing.

Google chrome seems to be overtaking it now though.
Maybe you should give that a try and see how it compares, either way there both a 100 times better than IE

google chrome for a yr after google as easy to search initially and now have e-mail for odd things.

Actually, Netscape predates IE by nearly a year and was certainly more popular until IE was integrated fully with Windows and this became a central to the Microsoft anti-trust trial as Microsoft had effectively put the Netscape browser out of business by monopolistic business practices. It was the integration with Windows which encouraged people to use IE which tended to be (and I think still is) an inferior browser.
The AOL browser may have even pre-dated both IE and Netscape but it really would be going quite off topic to start going into this!
