Using different Browsers

I've experienced a few problems recently with Internet Explorer (I'm on 8.0.6) ..yes I know a lot of people consider it a piece of Microsfot cr8p, but its been fine for me.

So, i'm currently trialing Firefox side by side with IE

Initial impressions show Firefox slightly faster, but looking at my fav sites (inc LJN) under Firefox things are a lot 'harder/harsher' - in terms of colours, rendering  fonts etc.

Anyone out there played around with FF and can share any tweaks or adjustments

Try http://www.opera.com/ for a free browser. You can even sync tabs with the mobile version on your smart phone or across different PC's.

I have used Opera for the past few years and it renders pages quickly and is not prone to crashing.

    • Ditto on that it's a great browser.

Google chrome seems to be overtaking it now though.

Maybe you should give that a try and see how it compares, either way there both a 100 times better than IE

Opera has some functions... for example type a letter for a Search engine eg "g" for google or "av" for alta vista and then the search string and it automatically searches for you

remember we moan but internet explorer was the first...

Actually, Netscape predates IE by nearly a year and was certainly more popular until IE was integrated fully with Windows and this became a central to the Microsoft anti-trust trial as Microsoft had effectively put the Netscape browser out of business by monopolistic business practices. It was the integration with Windows which encouraged people to use IE which tended to be (and I think still is) an inferior browser.

The AOL browser may have even pre-dated both IE and Netscape but it really would be going quite off topic to start going into this!
