Hi John, certainly from iOS (iPhones & iPad - on at least iOS 11.0) it now works natively, with clicking the button opening up your photo library.
If you are on iOS and it doesn't work in Safari (the built-in browser) there is an option in it to 'Request desktop site' and that normally allows a slightly more 'clunky' old way to achieve the same end.
If on Android, it works reasonably seamlessly when I last tried it.
Final comment, you normally need to allow Apps to access your photo library (and camera...and microphone ...and location ) by granting permissions in your Phone's Settings....
