Unusual fuel problem

Never had this happen before............... filled up my usual 2 stroke fuel container with the usual 5l fuel + the usual Stihl oil.... same oil/quantity as usual................. both the strimmer and the blower both stated having problems starting..... when they did start, had trouble getting them to rev up but eventually managed to coax them in to life and full power though once I switched them off, the same problems reappeared.  Thought it might be just coincidence with the fuel and got out my backup blower into action............. worked fine till I refilled with the "new" fuel..... then the same problems reappeared with this one too.   Abandoned the BP garage and made up a fresh batch of 2 stroke from Sainsburys and everything is working fine again!!  Wonder if they had some additive in the fuel which was causing the problem.

If this was last week during the extreme heat you may find its as simple as hot fuel expanding in the tank and air locking/ pressurising the tank. Was a cold machine ok in morning? I had this on 2 machines last week. The blower worse fuel was literally exploding out the tank when I tried to open the cap. All ok this week since it’s cooled down.

You could try an octane boost addative see if that helps, i would be having a word with the fuel station too.

Check your receipts ! A few years ago, I was rushing to get some 2 stroke mix made up - ( always use Stihl one shots to get the mix  spot on ) - filled my kombi and blower - went on to site, tried to start them and had a real game - masses of smoke, very uneven running. Managed to get one reasonable size hedge trimmed with difficulty then retreated home to investigate. Couldn't think of anything amiss, then had a brainwave - dug out the receipt, and yep, I'd only gone and filled my 5 litre can with DIESEL not petrol. Drained machines, new PROPER fuel, and all's well with the world. Felt a right pl***er, but still makes me laugh !!!
