Unethical banks, switching?

Hi everyone, I have been with the same bank for a number of years, but as I shift my company more towards a more Eco direction I find myself unhappy with the Ethics of this particular bank and feel it's time for a change, does anyone out there use the Co-op business bank and FSB ? What are they like to deal with as I am thinking of switching over to them...???

I use the free coop bank account with my FSB subs for two companies I'm director of.

The online banking is very basic but functions ok. The call centre staff are helpful if you need to speak with them. We pay in cheques in via the postal service - the coop provides free of charge reply paid envelopes for posting them!

Does the business side of the Co op let you pay in at post offices??? I don't need anything complicated, I'm a simple man haha

Yes Harry, it does. I have used it for several years.

As Nick says above, call centre staff are helpful if you get an issue - online banking is 'clunky' but works.

One note, Post Office 'Locals' ie those inside another shop can 'opt out' of the cash handling side as they do not have sufficient security measures - my most local one did that when the main Post Office closed down - if they are 'open plan' (ie no screens between cashier and customer they may not be able to handle the deposits). I now use the Post Office in the next village instead - the lady that runs it makes good sandwiches too....

Cheers Adam, the Ethical practices of the Co-op are of a higher standard than my current bank so think I'm going to switch, will have to check the local post offices though as a few probably don't do the bank deposits as they don't have full glass counters, cheers for the tip mate...
  • coop bank in trouble - Hi Harry .  It may be worth checking current status as I remember hearing about this on the news.  That said how many of the other banks have been in the news over recent months/years - and usually for the wrong reasons.  I really wish that Nationwide did business banking as I find their customer service and staff to be consistently great.

    • You have a very long memory John. That was ages ago and the capital reserves were replenished an eon ago. There are far bigger banks in far deeper trouble still. NONE of the UK big four are without problems and unless we elect politicians without vested interests in the sector we shall be paying for the likes of RBS for a very very long time to come. Maybe off topic for a landscaping interest site but follow Positive Money for an idea of how the system "actually" works, well nearly, and how it should work.
