The difference between a hazard (something with intrinsic properties to cause harm) and a risk (the actual chance of harm occurring) is very important in the world of plant science. Critics often call for bans on crop protection products based only on their hazardous properties, when the real-life exposure or risk of harm is low to non-existent. That’s why as an industry we support risk-based, rather than hazard-based regulation. Check out our two handy animated GIFs to help explain the important difference between a hazard and a risk: http://croplife.org/news/sharks-are-hazardous-but-we-keep-the-risk-low/
