I thought i would start this thread so people could voice their opinions on the competition.
When I was at college from Sept 05 to July 07 my college enterd the competition both years that i was there, and both years I was enterd into the team of four, any one who is on a horticultural course and is under the age of I think 35 can enter so there is a vast array of skills present at the event from school leavers with no site experience to expirenced landscapers who are topping up their skill set.
The juding is done on a points system, i have attached the scoring sheet i have from my first year at colege and my certificate too. They do say at the beggining of the competition that you do not have to complete every catagory just show that you can do it. You are given a plan and have to construct what is on the plan to the exact detail in 8 hours. If you are lucky you get the plan before the competition date and can practice what needs to be done, as we did. To actually construct the garden correctly to the exact detail took the team of four 16 hours in the end!
I would upload the plan but it is on 2 A3 sheets so its a little impracical.
What do you guys think?
I forgot to add earlyer, as we were studants we were extreamly hung over whilst doing this garden as it was the day before my birthday!

Hello Kieran
Firstly well done for getting your certificate in 2006.
When I was at Oaklands I remember the tutor telling us about this competition but I never took part myself.
I'm all for competitions myself, they can do no harm as long as you're aware of the pre-requesites at the outset i.e. training, costs, travel etc.
I noticed you lost points on the planting/green section-if you enter this competition again be sure to get some advice to gain maximum points. Now you're on LJN they'll be no shortage of first class suggestions to enhance your exhibit.
Keep us informed if you enter.
Regards
Helen
this is the design we had to follow

This all looks quite complicated Kieran. Noticed you're just over the hills from me in Dunsta-bubble.
