Tying down a mower in van

this seem a bit daft even as I write it but how do you all stop your mowers rolling around other back of your van while getting it out easily.

For many years I ran an old fiat scudo van a feature of it seemed to be any mower could be pushed in and  tucked neatly behind the wheel arch and the didn't move . Sold the shed on wheels and bought a Peugeot partner and a heavy wiebang roller mower even with bungees it breaks free and smacks into the back door. Any help will appreciated.

I use a baton screwed to the van floor that goes under the deck and lifts the front wheels off the floor and i get very little if any movement.

  • I have two pieces of wood for each mower screwed into the van floor lining. Holds them nicely. Just have to amend when you get a new mower if it's a different size.

    • Timber it is then thanks guys

Bungees' really arent the right thing to be securing loads down with like mowers. Use at least one ratchet strap, I use some from homebase that retract like a tape and are so much easier to use. I think the brand is ape? I ended up buying loads and threw all my standard straps into storage. Without seeing a photo its hard to really advice but something solid and metal attached to somewhere solid. Perhaps a D ring on the bulkhead?

Although the wood thing is a good idea if you've always got the same kinda load, not sure how it'd hold up in a crash though?

    • Crash wise I have a steel bulk head and while you are totally correct that ties are the best for retaining something, I drive one or two streets then unload. I did 16 gardens today and don't fancy adjusting a ratchet tie that many times to be honest but will Google the ape straps and have a look

      • 16 gardens!! That is incredible! I've never done that in the height of Summer! Well Done! Btw I use a tiny little piece of batton also- both mowers roll under a table i built into the back of the van and I just lift them up 2cm over the little bit of wood screwed to the floor, I then also have great storage on top of the mower body

It's one button to release and then a few movements to tighten it, its quicker than a bungee cord.

  • I cram the van so full of stuff then nothing has the chance to move!! The wood batton sounds like a winner though

  • They are all small council house type gardens and my route is dense so can get a lot gone.
