Twitter

Wondering if somebody who uses Twitter might be able to offer a bit of advice. We had a little flurry of tweets on Friday night mentioning our name. They were obviously spam messages (something about 'the best 80's tunes'?) but I'm a bit stumped as to how I can prevent this happening. The tweets didn't come from our account (i.e. we were not hacked), they just mentioned our name and therefore showed up in our Twitter feed - very annoying!

Has anybody else experienced this before? I've googled it but can't seem to find an answer.

What is your Twitter address Rebecca?

    Silly me. I've got it.

There's nothing to stop anyone adding @_LONDONSTONE to their tweets, therefore it will show up in your mentions. They won't appear as they are coming from you so unless someone is actually monitoring all tweets with @_LONDONSTONE in them, these tweets probably won't get picked up.

I wouldn't worry about them, if I were you.

  • Thanks, Phil. It was just so irritating - my phone kept buzzing each time! Very strange but glad it's nothing to worry about - thanks :)

  • Hi Rebecca,

As Phil has said nothing to worry about. If it was spam and was coming from one account you can just block that account. Thus removing any further tweets from your feed.

Hope this helps and add me if you like @jscountrytools

Could be a good thing as it will mean more people see your twitter name - bit of brand awareness building for no input at all!

  • Thanks ever so much guys, that's helped to put my mind at rest. Simon - just added you!

  • Hi Rebecca,

Just to add to the conversation, personally if anyone is continually spamming you, I would block them, although it is nothing to worry about, you don't really want people spamming you!

PS. I will add you to my Twitter account Rebecca!

  • Hi Roy - added you back :) Definitely isn't ideal, problem is they aren't followers so I can't block them. It seems that anybody can mention your name in a spammy tweet and there's not much you can do. I was panicking a bit because I thought I was going to be bombarded with them but I haven't had anymore since the weekend so hopefully it'll all be OK!

  • Hi Rebecca,

Thank you for the follow back, hopefully the problem will be a one off issue!
