Tree disease

Hi,

Does anybody have any ideas what might have killed off a Rowan tree. I noticed it start to decline in a customers garden last year, I put this down to the bad drought weather. However it has not come back this spring. There were no obvious outward signs of disease such as canker or fungus appearing around the base. Cutting it down the other day I noticed the discolouration shown in the attached photo. Any ideas?

James

  • Fireblight maybe. Bacterial disease which affects plants in the rosaceae family.  Moves quickly through the plant killing it.  Early signs are a burnt appearance to the leaves, could easily be thought of as drought especially in a hot summer like last year.
