Transporting tonne sacks across site

Good afternoon all,

When we are on site for several days and produce a lot of green waste we often use several tonne bags and then remove them in one go when finishing up. But on a recent job some silly **** blocked our access to the front of the property and we ended up having to lift the bags through a removed fence panel and drag them round from the rear. Not a major issue, just more effort, but in doing so a number of our bags finished up with holes in.

A barrow is helpful, but sometimes awkward with the balancing of the bags, what do others use, suggest.

Garden cart/sack barrow?

Alternative to tonne bags?

  • yes dragging tonne bags with any weight in rapidly destroys them. I do use them for branches etc which are more bulky than heavy. And I do not over fill them weight wise as usually work on my own so need to be able to lift it. For hedge and grass clippings I prefer the heavy duty green bags which have a nominal capacity of 272 litres and have a plastic insert around the rim that holds them open a bit. They each last a couple of seasons at least if not  over filled or abused too much. I bought a load of them a while back when the price was good. Better to have more bags and put a bit less in them,I find.

    • We don't usually overfill the bags to the extent that they become to heavy as quite often than not it's usually one of us that does the waste run, saves on man power and it doesn't usually take any longer than if several of us went. Issue I've found with the last lot of bags we bought was the drop in quality from previous versions.  The quality across the board I find varies incredibly, more so recently than ever before.

      • yes they do vary so much in quality, sounds a bit sad but I sometimes have a "favourite" dumpie bag and when it ends up ripping it's like losing a pet or something lol

  • I use tonne sacks also, lucky to have a mate in holders merchant but also speak to a lot of builders and ask for them, problem Is a lot come with holes in the bottom an they can be a bugger when windy, how about getting the garden waste refuse bins from your home and taking them with you in the van 😜

I had either used the 'tonne' bags or the small garden sacks but recently got some half tonne bags. Makes life a lot easier as you don't overfill and easier to lift into van.
