Transit in snow.

They have to be the worst drive in snow.
Here in Central Scotland we have had 3 foot deep snow in the rural areas and although I had work i couldn't get there.
So I've grounded the transit and bought a cheap 4x4, a suzuki vitara, (no I'm not taking up hairdressing)
I'm well impressed it just ploughs through the snow.
As it's the winter I don't need much room for mowers etc so can get all the rest of the gear in no problem.
Hopefully it should pay for itself soon.

  • Thats what i've got Rowly, nightmare!
Those snow socks look good Paul I'll investigate more.
When I drove the artics abroad we had to use snow chains - now they were a nightmare to put on in a blizzard!
  • Have scissors can travel, like it.

Who cares if you look like Gary the Styliste.....if you can move. From what I've seen on the TV you really need a 4WD ( whatever it is) to get about in Scotland.

I'm only in trouble on the side roads, the main routes are a breeze.

That said I'll take look at Pauls socks...are they for the driver walking home or the van?

  • No - but I have now, you'd be better off with a window cleaner and their chamois.

  • I'll keep it running over the winter hopefully and see how it goes.

I stay in Alloa, Clackmannanshire about 7 miles from Stirling and 10 miles from Dunblane.
I am actually English though from Hertfordshire but have lived here in exile for 23 years.
  • Small world, i do three days a week on the neighbouring estate, i was speaking to Archie Stirling the other month he came to collect two of his spaniels that had escaped from his kennels. I also know the shepherd who used to farm there he was made redundant and lost his house and everything.

    And your right, a woman.

What made you move to Scotland? A woman no doubt. Good move!

We love it and get there when we can ( Carrbridge in March). Brother used to manage a farm in your area for Diana Riggs ex hubby Archie Stirling years ago.

I'd like to retire to Scotland if funds allow. You cannot beat the scenery and then I won't be bothered about my transit or the weather!

  • I took my transit from Glasgow to Arbroath and back today, but did avoid any side roads. This week has been written off but I'll be able to catch up.
  • Another cheap and wonderful 4*4 is the Mitsubishi Pajero. Ours is 17 years old but it rocks pulled a 7.5 tonner out of the mud last week and has been towing a flat bed around over the bumps, ice and snow this week, doesn't even notice bad weather.
