Tools stolen!

Bad Monday afternoon today! Watched ALL my tools get knicked from my van. Mower, Blower, hedge cutter. Didnt get the strimmer as i was using it! By the time i got to the van they drove off. Id say at least four of them> And as much as i wanted to go after them i suppose my head took over and started thinking of the aftermath. Is it really worth risking your own safety for the sake of tools!? I personally dont think so.

My question is what happens in terms of insurance. We have tool insurance but have never claimed for anything at all since i started the company. What is the process of what happens?

Ive rung the police who are visiting me tonight. But there was no forced entry and I DEFINATELY know the van was locked> I think Houdini was the thief.

I suppose i better keep an eye out on ebay for these items!

Aw man thats cruel mate, sorry to hear that, hope you get them back.

  • I feel for you Steve.   Having had this happen a few times I really do feel your pain.    I couldn't claim from my tools in transit policy as the deadlocks were not locked on one occasion but the normal van locks were.   Unfortunately I found that the police were more interested in giving out a crime number and advising us to contact our insurance company even when on one occasion we had the car reg details etc. of the thieves!

If you need any gear ASAP, give me a shout and I will see what spare stuff I can find for you.

  • Steve - sorry to hear that - one question though - what van do you have?

There is a known issue with new shape Transits (MK7) that the locks can be 'bumped' allowing access.

There is a massive thread on the Transit owners forum on just this issue - in some cases complete vans are stolen with duplicate keys.....

  • Graeme thats really good of you mate. Top bloke.

I kept saying to the police that all i need is a crime reference but they insisted on booking to come and see me.

I think i know how they got in. The window was ajar and i think they found a small gap and forced the window down. But the window is not damaged. How do i stand on this?
Im lucky because i have spare tools. The main point of being pissed off is loosing my br550 blower and lawnflite mower. I have borrowed my mates sg86 hand held blower for now until this HOPEFULLY sorts itself out.

Im just worried about the insurance.

I'm sorry to hear about this Steve

Why not list what was stolen, when and where and add a lost to LJN or send it to me. You never know, a vigilant and honest buyer may spot what's stolen.

Oh gosh- so sorry for you Steve, hope they catch who did it and you get the stuff back.

    Hi Steve
Really sorry to hear about your tools.

I had something similar happen to me a few years ago. I saw a transit van parked next to mine blocking my view of what was going on behind while I was sat watching in a meeting. Never even entered my head what was going on. Lost nearly all my gear that day. Makes it worse seeing them do it.

Luckily my insurance replaced everything within 3 weeks but had to borrow and hire equipment in the meantime.

Hope you get sorted out quickly mate
  • Items that were stolen;

    Lawnflite pro 553 roller mower

    Stihl br550 blower

Hedge cutter attachment for stihl kombi system.

Maybe a few hand tools taken but im not worried about that.

  • The thing that really annoys me is that i saw them get back in their van casual as you like and drive off at 5-10mph! cocky s++ts

Police been round. Got a crime reference. There is no damage to the van but the nice police lady said they would be on the look out for the van/ tools. The police hands are tied in a way, unless they actually catch who did it in the act then there very little they can do.

Keep your eyes out on ebay people!!

  • Hi Martyn

Its strange how similar your story is to mine. That is more or less what happened with me. Although i wasnt in a meeting but on the strimmer.
