I use a flat file for edging shears, grinder for half moon edgers, hedge trimmers and mower blades and small flat chainsaw file for secateurs.
Same as Dan, my cheap little bench grinder from Screwfix has worked fine for many years, and get's the kitchen knives good and sharp as well.
I use a small, very fine, grinding stone on secs, and an oilstone if it needs the blade coming off for a proper sharpen every now and then.
