Toilet facilities

I was wondering how other members address the need for toilet facilities when working on domestic sites.

With the hole pandemic I have found many of our domestic clients have taken the decision in not allowing the use of their toilet facilities. With our clients that have larger gardens if push comes to shove there is always a tree, although ethically I'd rather not have to. But with our clients that have the usual size suburban gardens this is not an option.

Another tradesman I spoke to a few days ago said they keep a bottle in the van, if needs must I guess.

But I wondered what other solutions members used?

  • If you use a bottle make sure you leave an air gap!

I thought we were the only ones with this problem!! In the first lockdown everything was shut - several times we had to literally drive back to base .... around 40 mins wasted - my female helper refuses to "freewee".

This lockdown we have sussed the public loos and garden centres with open loos - our day in Salisbury can cost us about £3 extra... its 50p a wee at the local loos!!! :( :(

I have been considering putting a wash sink in the back of my small van on the door, maybe you could install a cubicle in your big van :-) I used to go into some properties to use facilities and wash hands and now dont for the time being. There are also those that turned off their outside taps back in october!! ready for the great winter freeze of 2020 Grr

I usually ask if they mind me using the loo if i get desperate but try not to be a pest , i feel once is enough .

Other times they will point the loo out and leave the door open but its a major consideration and i feel a bit strange climbing in the back of the van especially a very small van and closing the doors behind me .

Even in lockdown customers pointed out it would be okay to use their loo

Even offers of drinks , mince pies and a cheese toastie all claiming to be covid free .

  • Weeing on the compost heap is actually helpful (allegedly).

    • That's true.

      • I think a no.2 might be a step far however.

  • Anyone rigged up soming ingenious in their vans.

One of my guys who has a plan for everything, although rarely feasible or realistic seems to think it's possible.

You can get a portable bucket toilet for around £20 streetwise is one brand but it doesn't remove the need for an enclosure . Also an app on your phone which will locate nearest public convenience . I suspect they are locked if you move into a tier 4 area .
