My personal opinion is that you have to be commited to three or four years of entering to make the returns worthwhile. Gardening Scotland has been on shakey ground in the past and I'm not sure if it has ever fully recovered. I was involved in building show gardens at Strathclyde Park and the Royal Highland Showground for a company that did design & build. It's difficult to work out if we managed to gain any real benefit from the enormous cost of putting on an annual show garden there. If you team up with a nursery, a hard landscaper and some suppliers then your costs can come right down but you may find that you end up with too many cooks and a compromised horticultural broth.
