Just wanted to say.

Got pulled over today by pc plod. They were doing check on tipper vans to see what materials they held on board. (In particular they were trying to catch illegal scrap metal vans)

They obviously checked over the van, checked insurance etc etc

BUT they also wanted to check my waste carriers license. Which i always have on the van. so all was fine.

Just goes to show that a waste carriers license is needed! If i didnt have a waste carriers license i would now be looking at a huge fine!!!

So a message to all. If you dont have a waste carriers license. Get one! Otherwise in the future you may come unstuck!!

  • Ahhh

That must be what they were pulling tippers over for in Blackpool today.

  • PRO
We carry photcopied licenses tucked in sunvisor and has been enough to allow EA/Police to cross check and confirm all ok.
  • Aparently Raul Moat (that guy that went on a shooting rampage last summer) used to be a tree surgeon and the police used to constantly pull him over and fine him because they knew he didn't have a waste licesnse. And look how that turned out!
  • Interesting point---I've got a friend who has a license and takes his relatively small amounts of compostable waste to a customer with a very large property where its shredded for mulch or left to compost down--much quicker that a 20 mile round trip to the tip !Would there any problem with that in your opinion ? ...

If you were carrying Steve did they check your transfer note?

    • checked with enviroment agency while back yes if your carrying waste to use as compostable material at another job you still need a license as i do the same as you mentioned athough its better to cover yourself i did try to argue the point it was begin used / recycled but they class it as waste.
  • No i had a complete empty load. The reason they pulled me over is because i use wheely bins to load grass, leaves etc onto the tipper, the police wanted to know why i had wheely bins. Because apparantly the scrap thieves hide stolen cables in wheely bins.

  • Ok, I'm a little worried now.

I do not have a waste license - I take it I need one for carrying grass, leaves etc then, even if I am disposing of it on my own property?

    How do I get one?

  • I got mine from the environmental agency, £126 for the first 3 years, then £63 for a 3 year renewal thereafter.
