  • lol - yes he knows what tint maximum is allowed - 95% or 90 i think.

camreas x 3 up next door over path and our front doors, but not new garage or jeep yet.

ill have an electric roller door soon i pray and jeep or van will go inside .

maybe camera up when its done and security lights back up too.

some people say they would have smashed the baghead in , but thats not 'cool' or my style,
i think the threat is worse !!

thanks for your reply - i wish i had a german shepard !!!
  • I caught the guy on the security camera, passed the picture to the police. Not someone they know but they will circulate.
The Dog idea is best. I was thinking along the lines of an IR sensor linked to a digitised recording of a dog snarling and barking and an "I love Ridgebacks" sign on display near the front gate.
  • Said it before and I'll say it again. Anybody who steals the tools a man needs to put food on the table should be burnt at the stake.
  • whats a 6d or 4d maglite?

I wouldn't have been content to just threaten, they are absolute scum.

Ive had two encounters one some pikeys who tried to pry the door on the transit whilst I was working and got the winscreen and drivers side window put in before on their van before they could get away and a second time when I woke to a scream and a burnt on hand print on my adapted locking bar on the workshop.

By the time I had got jeans and boots on and the 6D maglite luckily for them they had got away albeit with a very nasty burn.

Tony martin had the right idea.

If you do ever catch someone then a word of advice I was given from a security guard is to tool up with a 4d or bigger maglite as its not considered a weapon unlike say a baseball bat.
  • I believe the 4D and 6D refers to the number of D size batteries required for the torch and thus gives an idea of there size and weight! would'nt fancy one smacked up the side of my nogging!!
  • I cant believe I was reading this thread last night and my van was robbed of all my powered kit in the early hours of this morning so am gutted totted up its gonna be three and a half grand to replace everything .I know you should never leave stuff in the van overnight but after a hard day and when your going to be setting off at six forty five to your first job its a temptation I have given in to .The resultant fallout is having an alarm fitted and buying this electrified cable lock to loop through everything when I am out working .What is there to stop them coming and doing it again when I have restocked .Oh by the way no sign of forced entry they must have had some kind of master key or bump key the lesson that can be drawn from this is that these thieves are organised and sophisticated in their methods as well as being the scum of the earth. One last thing ebay is a great place for the final part of the disposal chain and people probably dont even know the stuff they are buying is stolen .Shockingly when I was doing a course somewhere a University educated garden designer claimed for it to be ok to buy a bit of stolen kit when you are getting started.I nearly lost my rag hearing that as my brother a builder had just had all his kit taken in an overnight clearout of his van .My advice to everyone on this forum is to take every precaution at all times My van was on the drive and I was about ten feet away sleeping after a days honest work .
  • sorry,

  • yep whenever you are loading up someone seems to walk past and have good peer into your van .all it takes is a tip off to some scuzzballs and you get cleaned out but if my van was alarmed it would have never happened .\i can remove all the powered kit but not the mower when I replace that I am going to scew a big shackle to the van floor and buy one of those heavy duty motorcycle chains and a big lock the sort that even croppers cant get through, am going to have to work so hard to replace the things I need to make a living.
  • I had my van done & I feel for anyone being targeted it is a great worry and could put someone out of business :-(
I took it as a lesson in security and lock all tools together with a couple of different locks, these in turn are attched to the van via security loops. A motion detector alarm to go off in the van and one to go off in your bedroom is also invaluable as they know and you know as soon as a door is opened. bars on the rear window as well as limo black on the rear window ( doesn't hide the fact that there are bars but keeps the van cooler and stops prying eyes), get dead locks fitted as a priority, I fitted my own to reduce the cost but it will take you a day a few new tools to complete !!

Finally put some sort of physical barrier to them taking the whole van. steering lock & imobilelizer is a good start..

Hope you all get the thieving scum off your backs soon.

    Cheers
    Mark
