The Weird & Wonderful

Well I've finally stopped laughing after what I think is the strangest use of gardening equipment today. A gardener was using a petrol hedge trimmer, the type on the long pole to do hedge tops, to actually try trimming and edging the grass round the edges where he couldn't get a mower into. His reason was the cord on a strimmer spins too fast!I've heard of people using strimmers to cut hedges, but what's the strangest use of gardening tools you've seen?

  • I saw a woman yesterday next door to where i was working mowing the gravel driveway. Yes mowing the few weeds down with an electric flymo. You can imagine the racket.

  • was it a hover mower

  • Saw a fellow burning off side shoots on a buddleja with a gas can - asking him why, he was adamant it "cauterizes the wound so the bush doesn't die".

He's obviously not tried to kill a buddleja before..................

  • once changed a fan belt on an old P100 with a pair of felco 8s and a bulldog spade.

god knows how we managed it, but that was what we used.

  • No a wheeled rotaty mower. just the ticket from getting weeds off gravel.

Is that not what you use???

  • Must admit to using a strimmer on a privet hedge to give a nice straight line where it butted up to a brick wall... it was either that or secateurs..... worked a treat and very quick.
