Stuart - Phil and I managed to talk about the APL for the best part of an hour without him blowing a gasket!
All best,
Dave
I have made it clear (I hope and I think) that I would be a full supporter of the APL if they show that they take their position as part-custodian of the industry seriously.
I might well have been hard on them and I am sure that they are not going to (publicly at least) admit that what I have focussed on has caused change, but, nevertheless, change is coming and whether it is down to Landscape Juice or an internal review, there are signs of movement.
A new interactive website is planned with much of their revenue being pooled into creating new business for its members.
Judging the rhetoric, I would say they have been listening :
Landscapers must not go into 'panic mode' as a result of the downturn, says Association of Professional Landscapers (APL) vice-chairman Mark Gregory.
The APL will be injecting cash into its website in a bid to direct more work to its members.
Gregory, who is also director of landscaping firm Landform Consultants, said: "We are pooling all our money into our website.
"We see that as the big drive to direct business to it."
Gregory added that the APL's strength would be in helping its members weather the recession.
"When things are bad we need to help others in the landscaping business through it," he said.
He urged landscapers to support colleagues, even in rival firms.
"If you are doing well and you hear of another APL member who isn't, then maybe take them out for a beer and talk to them.
"We need to spend these times not in panic mode but in looking at your business and how to succeed."

I know that Stuart has been uncertain about the benefits of joining but after winning his biggest contract he felt it had propelled him into a different league.
I wish you all the best Stuart and please don't forget to pop along and let us all know how it goes.
Kind regards
Phil
