The choice between a pivot hedge and some nice evergreens which flower for my front garden

i have a 20ft border between my grass and pathway in my front garden. as the hedge planting season is coming i have been toying with the idea of either plating a pivot hedge that can be cut to a nice square shape of plating a mixture of evergreens that would flower from say april to september and would also give give different textures with the leaf shape and colour?The area gets full sun from sun up until about 2pm and has no shelter from frost and wind.Any suggestions???

    What is a pivot hedge-does it swing round! I know you mean privet. A privet hedge is a bit dull . Is the area really 20ft deep?

    I'm assuming/imagining a narrow, 20ft long border - if that's the case then I wouldn't have thought you'd want anything too tall .... but it depends on the rest of the garden, if it's already well stocked then, and if you want something to clip nicely I'd suggest having a (choose your own height) box hedge. -- Don't forget ground preparation.

    Kerry - just about the prettiest display I've seen this year was a bed of the purple cotinus, kept pruned, with just the right shade of pink, small shrub roses.
