Telescopic Hedge Trimmer Weight .

I am been after another hedgetrimmer I am eying up the Husqvarna iHT4 telescopic hedgetrimmer. I assume most have the Stihl equivalent HLA86 how usable is it hortizontally ? I have to many stupid tall but worse wide hedges , I've been using a Combi but the weight with the extra extension pole makes it tiring to use barely usable really held hortizontally  its about 3M long or 3.2 M not quite as long as the battery telescopic . I've notice it looks like the motor is on the end with the battery models more weight on the end?   I've been asking the dealer about one for weeks , they got some in stock today but typically I've nearly finshed hedge cutting till later on in the year it be sat in the shed / house for months doing nothing.

  • Hi been using the HLA85 and more recently HLA86 for years, and use it primarily on the tops of hedges, the performance is essentially the same between the 2 models, with the later model having some design tweaks, at full extension a bit front heavy, the motor itself doesn't weigh that much but the blades certainly do, can counteract it a bit by using a heavy battery. I wish they had a slightly more powerful motor sometimes as the previous gardeners often left the furthest bits to grow thick and unchecked, generally it will gnaw through most stuff though.

I've got the hla85, great for doing tops of hedge's. Heavy, cumbersome, but very well balanced with the ap300s battery. Easyer to use than combi engines with extension. I went for Stihl battery kit at the time because husq were having constant malfunction issues. There Worth the money.

You could always get yourself one of those elephant harness (not Stihl) that Vic575 raves about.

  • I should of add the weight when fully extended hortizontally the weight not a problem otherwise normal length  .

My normal long reach I use all the time needs a bit of work on it and its getting a bit old now so been using the combi, the combi jsut doesn't seem as good as a dedicated hedge trimmer or is it just  me ?

I've already got a husky battery / charger recently sold the husky 520 ihd70 I couldn't get on with the double sided blades don't think the length of the blade helped and after a little accident with it I fell out with it . Gone back to the dark side got a petrol husky 522 last summer really nice machine. I were impressed with the battery husky though

I am going having a look tomrrow dealer is a stihl & husky dealer so I can compare them , thought about going over to stihl battery its harder to get husky gear and the batterys are quite a bit dearer than stihl.
