Hi David,
We attend lots of local trade shows, Christmas fairs etc etc to promote our brand and increase sales. One of the issues we faced is taking payments at said shows. I investigated several options from dedicated card readers, to manually swiping credit & debit cards.
After a lengthy process I decided that a mobile card reader was the way forward. However I only wanted a reader that offered no monthly fees. I looked at the iZettle and although it seemed adequate it was a brand that the majority of the general public where unfamiliar with and I was unsure if they would trust me.
I decided to opt for “Paypal here” as the brand is well known and trusted. I have the same 2.75% transaction fee as the izettle. I can also remove payments and deposit within minutes of the transaction without any charges. The interface is simple and easy to upload products and services for sale. One benefit the paypal system offered was the ability to invoice the customer with numerous payment terms. I can also take payments through cash and cheques (simply scan the cheque and its processed into your paypal account) and if your client is a paypal member the unit will detect their account and access for payment. The client has the option of a printed receipt or to have their receipt emailed to their PC. This option also allows you to capture their email for future promotions (if they agree that is).
The only thing is the paypal unit costs £99.00 per reader but it's reliable and works like a dream. However all types of readers only work effectively if you have internet access. I can hotspot my iphone as a mobile router and its ok but it will work well with a min of one bar on an ipad 4 or iphone.
The last point I’ll mention (probably not important for you) but my average sales transaction increased when I started to take mobile paypal payments.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Simon
The monthly charge of £10 I could live with, however they hold your cash for 3 days gaining interest off your transaction. :(

Hi Nick,
Yes that's correct however the unit I went for allows me access to my cash within minites of the transaction. I have a 2.75% processing fee and I can take payments in cash, cheque, all debit and credit cards and through paypal for free.
But the most important feature is the brand everyone knows and trusts Paypal ?
