One of our major Hospitals in Surrey was closed this afternoon (and will stayed closed until Sunday) due to a patient attending after being exposed to industrial strength pesticide.
Not thought to be anything other than domestic use of industrial (professional ?) products.
Will be interesting to get the full story !
Press Report:
“Patients are being turned away from the Royal Surrey in Guildford, due to concerns of exposure to a "toxic pesticide".
The A&E department had to be closed earlier today (March 24) as the incident was investigated. Ambulances are still being diverted to other hospitals in the area.
Emergency services, including police and the service, also been seen outside part of the hospital.
Dr Christopher Tibbs, Medical Director at the Royal Surrey has told Eagle that the A&E ward is currently closed to new patients.
In a statement, the hospital said: "Earlier this afternoon a patient presented at Royal Surrey's emergency department following an incident with an industrial strength pesticide.
"The safety of all our patients is paramount and accordingly the decision was taken to temporarily close the emergency department, diverting ambulances and patients to nearby hospitals.
"There is currently a deep, decontamination clean underway and it is expected that the department will re-open later this evening.
"The affected patient is isolated and no other patients in the department are at risk. No patients or members of staff have suffered harm as a result of this incident."
It is expected that services should return to normal by tomorrow.””
