  • Hi Peter,

I switch to shoes for the summer. I use good cool temperature socks too. Maybe it's all in me head, but it seems to work..

I accidentally bought some safety sandals a few years ago. Were great in the summer when not spraying eg mowing or granular fertilisers. Think they were engelbert strauss.

    • I tried hiking sandals years ago & got fed up with them filling with dirt - I ended up like Frodo

I've just checked them and they are cofra safety sandals. The reason I mistakenly bought them was that I didn't see the gaps on the poor picture. Compared to walking sandals they are far more enclosed front and back.

    • Thanks. They look good but I know that I would be forever taking them off to empty the soil.

In my defence, this is the sort of  picture I was looking at on a mobile, in sunlight, in a rush. Thought I was buying safety trainers!

I go for light tan boots. Currently using DeWalt dealer boots. Been using dealer boots for four year's and wouldn't go back to laces.

    • I used to love DeWalt Challengers but each pair lasted less than the previous pair.

  • My old boss had the right idea on footwear (totally wrong!)

He had never heard of such things as shoes let along steel toe caps.

Used to be barefoot, summer & winter, rain or shine. He was a rockery expert in his day & used to build & place stones without anything on his feet. F**king mad!

Useless businessman, he couldn't organise a thing & mad a loss every year although he was in business for well over 20 years before going to the wall. I was long gone by then. The workmanship & company name was the only thing that kept him going.

The vehicles were in a terrible state, cracked windscreens & knackered tyres. The only way I managed to get anything done to an old Cabstar was to tell him I had been pulled over & given a warning by the police. Told him if he wanted me to drive anything, I wanted it in writing he excepted full responsiblity for any fines I recieved.

  • Goretex boots/trainers and merino wool socks, your feet will be fine all year round.
