Biggest problem with Ryobi can be parts availability - sounds like you need a piston, barrel and piston rings at the least....
Just done a quick Ebay search which showed no UK results for ryobi parts unfortunately.
Tried asking your local mower shop?
Tip: Get a chainsaw fuel can or the one's with the clear viewing strip built in. That way you can see the mix before pouring.
Personally, I wouldn't repair, I'd replace. There are good low cost stihl strimmers around for lite commercial use....
As a balance to the other posts, ive had a Ryobi expandit strimmer for 2yrs now and its taken a lot of abuse with no breakdowns, just a replacement fuel cap and new plug and filter every year.
I now have some Stihl kit but the Ryobi still gets used every week because it has the bent shaft which i find better for strimming awkward areas or lawn edges when held upside down.
Try these two for spares

I used ryobi in the early days - and Found that being Half Crank engines they are prone to wear badly and fall to peices if used heavily, on top of destroying your hands!
For your OWN Saftey get rid of the Ryobi, otherwise buy another as they are one of the cheapest makes, and at often 1/3 the price of a decent Stihl unit you should not expect the same life span from it.

Horrid little machine - I would replace it no questions; consider the poor guy you are paying to use it for hours on end!
I am finding it hard to find a small loop handle strimmer with low vibes. Smaller stihl machines aren't that great; husqvarna 128 and 327 models seem better though.
Anthony, will try the place you suggest for spares. Cheers again.
