Storing hand tools in the vehicle

Hi everyone,Just after some advice and opinions on this, i currently keep hand tools in a big bucket on the side of the van. However it's not really working, what does everyone rose do? I'm also after an idea on how to store my stihl br600 on the side off the van, does anyone use a special hook or anything like that?

We keep our small hand tools in a big tub which stacks inside 2 other tubs that we use for putting weeds, waste in etc. Our spades, forks, edgers etc are in a dustbin which is bungeed in position in the corner of the van. We carry a lot of tools so need to keep stuff together otherwise it's chaos!
  • those longhandles tools go back in my garage- eventually after landscaping etc,

but big b-blowers in all time as used for everything . nightmare- like a big snake so always awkward.

  • I have all my hand tools clipped to the walls of the van so that the floor space is maximised for big tools. That includes, 5 different sized spades/shovels, 1 mattock, 2 brooms, watering can, knee pads, 2 forks, various multi change heads for 2 sizes of handles. Dustpan, pointing trowel (which doesn't often do much pointing), various screwdrivers, a rubber mallet and a claw hammer. Scissors, a variety of hose tap connectors with a short length of pipe on them and a hose gun. Petrol can sits in a box above the wheel arch along with a couple of cans of wd40.

    Think that's the lot

  • I put a false wooden bulkhead in my vivaro, & have loppers hedgecutters, including a stihly 45 on hooks & tool clips attached to it. Lawn rake normal rake & sweeping brush are on tool clips attached to the roof, & 2 pole loppers are on hooks on the side opposite the side door. I've put a shelf over one wheel arch on which sits a box containing kneepads gloves & oil, most used spanners & plug wrenches are on a rack above that.
Putting in the bulkhead allows me to store spades, forks etc behind it keeping them tidy & out the way, this all leaves the floor space clear for mowers blowers & stuff.

    Hi Everyone,

thanks for the advice, i decided to build shelving down the side of the van. which fits all the hand tools and blowers into. After buying a few pieces of new equipment, i didn't want to keep them on the floor or onto of the waste! hopefully going to try and get into the habit of using the trailer more, as i found out over the past 2 weeks the amount of water in my van was unreal!

  • Hi Daniel, ive attached a pic of my "everyday maintenance" van set up. as you can see ive got a plywood shelving set up that on the r/h has three levels, base for hedge trimmer and hand blower, middle for small hand tools, 2 stroke oil and bits and pieces and top can be used for long hedge trimmer/strimmer or back pack blower. the side sliding door is used for my "main" mower and a further shelf above that behind the drivers seat has room for my flymo L300 hover mower and other bits.Long tools are down each side attached by wire hooks made from strong green plastic covered wire from chain link fencing. Its amazing what you can fit into a Fiat Scudo! Aritificial turf on the floor to stop rattling tools annoying you is optional!3314713807?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024

    Hi Ben,

i like the set up, ill have to take one of mine tomorrow. Does it not get annoying having to fold down the handles on your mower after every job?

  • No Daniel, the honda roller mower that you can see is only used occasionally. my main mower to the side door is left fully set up. If i have a day where the roller mower is the most used mower, i switch them over. unless you have a much bigger van you end up with a compromise, but my Scudo is big enough for the way i work, each to their own i say!

I see what you mean Ben! i have a mob sprinter so space isn't an issue! how do you take your waste away? or do you leave it on site?
