Still got weeds in the lawn

Hi

I've recently scarified and over-seeded a lawn. I dropped in today to have a look and i was surprised to see as much weed as before the over-seed.

I'm not sure what to do and I've not yet attended the PA1 & PA6AW courses so can't spray yet although, this job is at a friends house. The lawn is looking pretty good for what is my first ever job to over-seed and lawn which was in need of some love.

What do you think I should do about the weeds and what process to get rid of them should I take?

  • Try a granular need and feed if you cant spray but it won't be as thorough as a sprayer applied selective

Simples, get your friend to buy some domestic grade selective lawn herbicide like veredon and get him to apply it. Job done :-)
  • Cheers both Dan and Brian.

At what point is it possible to apply any herbicides?? I over-seeded three weeks ago for a point of reference

  • PRO
Get it applied asap, the temperature is dropping fast
  • So it wont damage the seed and new grass

    Nope :-)

it depends on the herbicide. For professional users Spearhead cannot be applied for 6 mothers after seeding but React can be applied more or less straight away (at least from memory!)
I'm afraid I don't know much about domestic weed killers and if they can or cannot be applied on newly seeded ground.

  • Well I'll look into the domestic market products and check it can be applied this early, thanks Nick

  • There are very few selectives which can be applied so soon after seeding. I searched recently and ended up using holster which was for use 6 weeks after seeding.

  • I've just searched for Holster but its for professional use and I haven't completed the PA1 and 6 yet. A stream is at the bottom of the garden and I'm concerned about using the wrong product, I'm going to have to call someone in I think, I don't know what I'm doing yet
