Stihl MS 180 C Chainsaw problems

Can anyone offer any advise

The chainsaw starts fine immediately onto full revs. When the control lever is then flipped up to put it on to tick over the speed reduces some but the chain is being driven around at fair rate (should be stationary). According to the owner this happened suddenly and seems more than the just the adjustment of the idle screw although I guess it is possible but don’t know how so not tried  yet
.
The saw has been totally cleaned, all the levers, rods, triggers etc seem to be fully functional, in the correct positioned without impedance. Fuel drained and replaced just in case the mix was to lean. Filter cleaned, nothing obviously lose .

The saw has not had much use but out of warranty, so before its taken to the local repair shop thought I would ask for any thoughts on here

Thanks

I just phoned my friend and asked if he had anything caught up in the saw lately and sure enough he advised when chopping up some hedge trimmings he had a length of thick green wire wrap around the saw and stall it. So it looks as if you could have identified the likely cause of the problem.

What sort of job is it to get at the clutch mechanism? My friend has not had this saw or any other saw apart . I will see if I can find a copy of the manual on the Internet but doubt it will go into detail about the clutch assy.

Thanks anyway or the information provided

The centrifugal clutch should hold the chain back, the springs tend to stretch over time this is probably the problem.

First off Clean the clutch out of debris and check the sprocket is OK, I have had similar running of the chain when Ive hit bail twine with the saw and caught this in the sprocket/ clutch mechanism. Also ree set and set the idle screw.

If the above fails then replace the clutch springs or the whole clutch assembly.
