Not used the Stihl version but I use a mantis and I like it for small boarders and lawn prep, good for tilling and weeding and only weighs about 6kg.
Agree the mantis is the best tiller i have ever used . Are you refering to the Stihl tiller Kombi attachment Stephen ? Not used this but I have the MM56 Stihl multi engine with tines , you can get various accessories for it de thatcher etc , Its about the same price as the mantis but not as versatile from my experience .
It's the head that attached to the mm56 with the tines
In my opinion, multi-tool tillers are only suitable for breaking down clods of soil which have already been dug/rotovated, also for mixing soil and compost in veg beds. Generally they do not have enough weight over the tines to make any real impact on any sort of consolidated soil.
If you've already got the Kombi engine then the tiller head is probably worth adding to the collection anyway - you'll find a use for it somewhere along the line!
Cheers just been watching YouTube and it looks pretty good, guess the only way to find out is to purchase
Yes it looks effective on the video tilling , I feel you might still have to break through any compaction first with a spade or fork but looks effective in loose soil .
Are they designed for the bigger engines , I dont think it wolud knock the skin off a rice pudding if attatched to my little Km 94 but could be wrong , I might succumb if its effective it looks useful .
I'll keep you posted
Mines a 131r tho so bit more power
We used our new one yesterday for the first time. We used it for breaking up the surface prior to relaying turf.
It got clogged up surprisingly easily, You have to really watch out for roots from shrubs and bricks or large stones, both stopped it in its tracks. You then have to pull the whole thing apart, free it and put it together again.
All that said it broke up 40sqM of compacted surface in about 20mins max, far quicker than we would have managed any other way.
We also have the lawn rake attachment that looks promising.
...another factor to consider is the whole thing at the business end needs dismantling and cleaning after use...
Im glad I got the engine unit cheap (2nd hand)....I think it has its place if a number of the attachments work ok
Glad to hear it does a good job, should be here Wednesday so I'll keep you all updated.
Ive got a 48 volt battery powered one, it's a lot better than you would ever imagine, runs for about half an hour on a 4ah battery and creates a fine tilth on borders and veg patches etc. Got a big old school Honda rotavator for serious work but you can carry the battery machine in one hand. Mine is a mountfield but greenworks etc are all fundamentally the same
