The clutch springs are probably broken, the clutch "shoes" may be sticking on the pins they pivot on or the idling speed is too high....unlikely as I'm sure you'd have noticed that.
You'll need to take the clutch apart...... unfortunately, a bit of a fiddly/time consuming job but if you make a careful note of how it all comes apart... ideally taking photos as you go...... you should be fine.
Thanks for the advice Graham, I think I'll drop it in the repair shop tomorrow for a estimate.
