Try the dealer you got it from, mine did this and like yours was one month out of warranty but Stihl still honoured it.
I went into my dealer yesterday and was shown that even if they would/could fix the machine, Stihl haven't got the parts needed in stock.. not good in my opinion, but I'm guessing over the next year or so companies are all going to struggle.
Soak the blades in WD40, and best to do regularly each time you finish using it. The smallest amount of rust on the blades will make them stick together...
Also an occasional application of resin removal foam will bring the blades back to a shiny state, reducing friction. Takes a while using a brush to agitate the gunk then wiping off with a rag before re-oiling when its done. One of my HSA86's started playing up the other day, intermittent red lights on the battery and cutting out. Will be a nice job for a rainy day tinkering around with it. But for now it has been chucked in a corner and I am using another one
May be an easy fix after all. Dropped it at the dealers yesterday, got a text last night saying the machine was ready. They say it was just dirt and debris around the inside of the switch. Sounds too good to be true but I'll take it! Pouring down now and soaked to the skin so I'll try it out tomorrow!
There is a small safety sensor switch in the head that senses whether the cutting head is engaged in one of the pre dilled angled slots. Basically it stops the machine working if something does wrong and the cutting baldes fall back towards you. This switch can fill up with debris and the machine won't work, you won't get any warning lights on the battery machine just seems dead. I had exactly the same as you described with it working intermitently before just not going at all. 5min fix. Hope that all made sense.
Had a weird one today i had to ram the battery into the battery compartment , everything worked for five minutes .
battery on red i removed it to discover a snail had taken refuge in the battery slot . all working fine again .
nightmare, very hard to clean anything out those battery slots let alone snail juice. The battery slot covers are only about £3 from the stihl dealership
Simon, you are a legend, just stripped down the head again and found the sensor, the sensor was totally covered in rubbish. Have given it a good clean up and the machine is running awesome again.
thank you Harry
Glad you're up and running again Harry and that you managed to make some sense of my comments.
