Stihl HLA 65 long reach

Has anyone had problems with their Stihl battery long reach trimmer overheating and causing the battery to have 3 solid red lights. After about 20 minutes of use mine starts to play up by stopping and I have to pull the battery out and replace it. It then keeps doing it every few minutes. I have greased the gearbox which has made no difference.

Have you tried a light oil (wd-40 or equivalent) to the blades? - if they are sticking in any way they may cause this problem.

    • Yes done that. The odd thing is everything seems to be moving smoothly, the battery is fine in my other trimmer so it has to be a machine problem rather than a battery problem

I've had countless issues with the short reach version doing this. Had to send it back for warranty several times.
    • That's not good to hear, mine is out of warranty I think, I will double check. Do you know what was done to repair it?

It's had a quite a few different repairs one being a new motor. I've found the blades need to be sprayed much more regularly than other hedge trimmers. Not totally convinced these are up to heavy duty use past a year or 2.

It happens to us on conifer which I put down to working it too hard? Never on any other hedge and only if it’s a bit of thick conifer hedge!
