Hi, FSA86R looks like the replacement model to me. Just hope the improvements in design haven't spoilt what made the FSA85 such a great lightweight very controllable machine without being brushcutter-y. Looks to have a different spool and personally I find those new style safety triggers a pain, but that's progress I suppose. I use my FSA135R or Ego STX4500 on heavier jobs, but for finer tasks the FSA85 has proved the best
Thanks will take a look at that model, you are absolutely right, the fsa 85 is perfect for everyday domestic lawns, it will indeed be a shame if the newer model is much more powerful, might nip into a stihl dealership over the weekend and see what they suggest
Thanks yes I love mine I have 2 or 3 of the FSA85 plus at least 1 in bits so am hoping they will "see me out" in my gardening career ... the very graduated way the power can be delivered from just tickling the grass edges all the way up to full blast is a thing of beauty. Have tried many battery trimmers 36 Volt and up, some have a minimum speed that is way too enthusiastic and the power delivery somewhat aggressive, making neat work impossible. Failing that some domestic grade 18 or 20 volt machine but those are generally too short in length, relatively flimsy construction and not quite up to the job somehow, the FSA85 as you know can tackle rougher stuff at a push
