Stihl Combi extensions

I am going to buy a replacement HT-KM pole pruner for my Combi.  I can buy it with the shaft or without & then swap the old shaft over.  But am I better using the old shaft & making another extension out of it ?  I have seen the screw collar for around £25 which I assume turns any shaft into an extension.  Any thoughts ?

  • There's a bit more to it than that, I've played around with those collars a bit trying to do what you suggest with little success.

I believe you need a few more bits to make your male - male rod into the required male - female, then getting them all to stay where they should is another matter, I recall making a stick with male to female, but couldn't get the collar to stay put so the saw head wasn't at the same angle throught the extensions.

From memory, you're a fair bit longer in the tooth than I, so probably more experienced with making things work. Stihl expanded diagram of 1m extension will help you.

I got annoyed and ended up buying 2 new extensions.

I now use old shafts to replace banana strimmer shafts.
